¡Hola!

I am Amalia. I am an independent teacher and certified by the Rafael Landívar University of Guatemala to teach Spanish as a second language. I studied international relations at the University of San Carlos.

I live in the very charming city of Antigua, Guatemala, which is famous for its personalized Spanish-language instruction. I love traveling, geography, gardening, politics, making new friends, and, of course, I love teaching Spanish in a personalized, interesting, and fun way. In addition to online Spanish classes, I’m an AirBnB host and founder of the community project Start with a Smile Project.

I feel fortunate because with most of my students and guests I have created a bond of friendship, not just teaching. I have friends in different parts of the world.

My accent in Spanish is neutral and clear. This is an advantage for students to have better understanding and to learn faster.

I have been an independent Spanish teacher on the Internet for six years. Previously, I taught private face-to-face classes. The high quality of Skype permits me to see and hear my students in real time.

My lessons will fit your needs and they are fun. The experience of personalized classes has taught me to start from the first class speaking in Spanish. Please, do not be scared! We are a team and I will guide you through verbs, vocabulary, comprehension, grammar rules, pronunciation, and different aspects of the Spanish language.

I know that conversation can be difficult, but I will make sure to give you the confidence to speak Spanish. I have experience teaching all ages and all types of students: beginners, intermediate, and advanced.

I love when students participate and are not afraid to make mistakes. After all, this is how we learn a language. The Spanish that I will use will be at your level and personalized. It will set the learning pace so that our conversations, readings, and understanding will become more complex. If you only speak in the present, I will speak only in the present as well.

No matter the subject and focus of the lesson, humor, laughter and small jokes are a must in all classes to break the ice and make the class more enjoyable.

Who says that learning Spanish has to be boring? The lessons are fun, dynamic, and creative since we can learn the language using different tools that are available on the net, like music, movies, or videos. It’s never too late to start!

I look forward to meeting you on-line!
